The Cross 11/6/07
Lately I have been reading a book sent to me by a new friend Jim Hatton who lives in Canberra, Australia. Jim has been traveling and ministering in the area of the Father revelation for many years now from his base within YWAM. The book he sent me has opened my eyes to something that I have been seeking to ‘see’ for many years.
Some of you will have heard me say that I wondered as a young Christian how Jesus dying on the Cross 2,000 years ago took away my sins that weren’t even committed then. It was a quandary for many years then I felt that I received some light on it and was mostly satisfied with what I had learnt. Well this book that Jim sent me took the subject much deeper for me and I am still swimming about in new realms trying to get a further hold on other parts of it as well. But I saw something for the first time about Jesus death on the Cross and the removal of our sins and sin that is a real mind blower for me.
To understand what I saw we first must ask the question, “How did we get to have sin and sinfulness within our beings in the first place?”
Well we know that when Adam and Eve sinned the whole human race was inside their bodies and so as they sinned and fell that sin came upon us all as we were inside them and we all fell. ( We see this stated over and over in Romans 5: 12-19) When Adam and Eve sinned the whole human race was affected as they were and they had now children after their own image (Gen 5:3) and not in the image of God as Adam and Eve were originally made. Now the children of Adam and Eve were different to what Adam and Eve were originally. Adam and Eve’s children were like Adam and Eve after the fall!
So sin came to us by being imparted through our father and mother Adam and Eve. We’ve been fashioned after what they had become as humans because we were in them as they fell and what they became we became.
Now Ephesians 3:9 says that we were all created through Christ Jesus. In fact not only us but all of creation was created through Christ Jesus. Also Ephesians 2:10 says that we were all created in Christ Jesus. This is again stated in Colossians 1:16-17 but the truth that in fact all things hold together or consist in Jesus Christ is added. Simply put this means that our very bodies were created by and through Jesus Christ and even now His being holds us together. His being also held Adam and Eve together!!!!!!! This is amazing now!!!!!!
You see our being in Adam and Eve’s fall has been outdone by the fact that our very beings (in a much deeper, prior and totally essential way) are in Jesus Christ. So when Jesus died on the Cross the very substance of our being was involved in that too. He holds our bodies together and we are created through Him so anything that happens to Him is also our experience! Our death in Christ is more basic to our being and existence than Adam and Eve’s fall. Jesus’ death on the Cross also included Adam and Eve’s beings as they were also created by and through Jesus and were held together by Him. So Jesus death took the whole human race and it’s fallenness into His death.
But…..!!!!! then Jesus resurrection also took the whole human race into His resurrection because again we are inseparably linked by creation to Jesus and everything that happens to Him happens to us. We see in Romans 5:18 that by Jesus one act of righteousness (dying on the Cross) justification of life came to all men. Does this mean that everyone is automatically saved – universal salvation? No! Salvation only comes to those who believe this wonderful truth. Darkness covers all who don’t believe. Salvation is to be received (Romans 5:17) by faith.
This is wonderful I think. It has blown my mind into new things and now I am considering the incarnation of Jesus in a totally new plateau of understanding. Think about it!
